A tongue piercing is a form of piercing in which the tongue is pierced to attach a piece of jewelry.

What types of tongue piercings are there?

There are 5 types of tongue piercings. Here I will explain them in brief:

The midline tongue piercing is the only safe piercing and therefore the only tongue piercing we will offer at Inksane.
Any other tongue piercing pierces the tongue muscles which can lead to severe and permanent speech impairment.

How much does a tongue piercing cost?

The price for placing the piercing is €35 excluding the gem.

The price for the gem itself starts from €15. You can find it in our physical shop or webshop.

Are tongue piercings painful?

It is different for everyone. For some, it will be a pinprick and for others a huge pain. Still, it will feel less pleasant than earlobe piercing.

But surprisingly, it is one of the spots that hurts the least during piercing.

What size tongue piercing do I need?

The standard diameter of a tongue piercing is 1.6 mm. Tongue piercings are always straight barbells which normally have a standard size of 16 mm.

From what age is a tongue piercing allowed?

The tongue piercing requires a minimum age of 16 to get it pierced.

How long does it take for a tongue piercing to heal?

The tongue piercing usually heals within six to eight weeks.

During this period, it is important to avoid causing damage to the tongue piercing. This can be done, for example, by eating hard foods or gnawing on tongue piercings.

If the tongue piercing does not heal properly, it can lead to infection or other complications.

How should I take care of my tongue piercing?

Aftercare for a tongue piercing is similar to any other oral piercing. Some tips:

After what period of time is it possible to replace your gem for a nice tongue piercing?

We recommend waiting at least six months before you decide to change the tongue piercing jewel of a tongue piercing.

If the tongue piercing is still healing, changing jewelry may cause pain, irritation or infection. So it is important to wait until it is completely healed before you decide to change the jewel.

Moreover, you are not obliged to change the jewel completely. If you are satisfied with the length of the rod, you can also change only the top ball. For example, you can change the top one to something with sparkling crystal stones or in different colors.

What materials are suitable for tongue piercings?

At Inksane, we use only Implant grade titanium,  by its many advantages: it is completely hypoallergenic (100% nickel-free), it is as hard as steel, but lightweight.

A second option is surgical steel,  but this has some disadvantages, and is therefore not used by us: heavy in weight, and there is also a small amount of nickel in it which makes those jewels not good for people with allergies.

Because we work with quality materials and piercings, so you're only going to find jewelry made out of Implant grade titanium at our physical store or online store.

What are the sizes of a tongue piercing?

To know the length of a tongue piercing, there is a simple way. Just measure the length between the 2 balls. Standard is 16 mm, but you can of course change the length to what you find comfortable once the piercing has healed.

For the thickness of the rod, you still need a caliper to measure this precisely. By default, this is 1.6 mm.

The thread is equal to the thickness of the rod.

The most beautiful tongue piercings

You are probably looking for a new tongue piercing in a specific color, such as gold or black. There are countless barbells available in beautiful colors. Yet not all of them are suitable for wearing in the mouth. So look especially carefully.

An example is gold-plated barbells. These have a very thin layer of gold plating around the material. However, this plating is not resistant to the influences it is exposed to in the mouth.

The type of jewelry for the tongue piercing are barbells. These are available in different colors, with balls, stones on them, etc.

The top ball can then be something special, but which is still a comfortable tongue piercing for you.

What should I do if my tongue piercing becomes inflamed?

If the inflammation has been going on for a long time, it is recommended to go back to the piercer. You notice this when you have a very swollen tongue and it also hurts a lot.

The piercer will then inspect your tongue and may or may not refer you to your doctor.
