It is important to know the difference between a needle and a gun/gun if you want to pierce. We and many other professional businesses do not use a gun and this has its reasons. It can have adverse long-term effects and we absolutely want to avoid that. Read all about it here.

How is a piercing gun/gun used?

You can compare the gun to the principle of pliers. The jewel is inserted into the gun and is pushed through the skin with quite a lot of force. The lock is already on the back immediately. There are also disposable guns. These are more hygienic to use.

How is a piercing needle used?

A piercing needle is a sharp and smooth object. It is pushed through the skin on both sides of the ear with even pressure. The needle is placed on one side and fingers on the other. There are different piercing needles for the different types of piercings.

Why is a piercing needle better?

There are five big reasons Why a piercing needle is a better option.

A needle is sterile

Being sterile is a must! With a gun you cannot guarantee this because it is not (sufficiently) sterilized so you have the risk of contracting a pathogen such as HIV and Hepatitis. With a needle you avoid this risk because it is sterile.

At Inksane the work material is first thoroughly cleaned in the ultrasonic and then sterilized in the autoclave. This is only done with jewelry and certain materials such as reusable pliers. For the rest of our materials (such as gloves, clamps, needles, tapers to insert jewelry,...) we mainly use disposable. That is, it is discarded after use. Anything that touches the client's skin (comes in contact with blood, saliva, snot, wound fluid, etc), is discarded after use.

Less chance of infection

In our studio we choose the length of the jewel according to which part of the body is being pierced and according to the estimate of swelling (for example, a tongue or lip will swell much more than an ear). The jewel is always long enough and takes into account the swelling. In a fresh piercing, there is always a longer jewel that needs to be shortened after six to eight weeks. A gun used the same length of jewelry each time. A clasp is pushed on, which is difficult to clean and can cause the needle to grow in and infect the pierced area.

Causes fewer injuries

A needle creates a sharp and hygienic hole in the skin without causing bleeding. A gun, on the other hand, causes a greater injury and can cause the surrounding skin to be damaged. In some cases, the injury and infection is so bad that it can only be remedied with plastic surgery....

Less painful

Piercing with a needle may look intimidating but it is more pleasant than with a gunshot! A needle slides nicely into the skin while a gunshot requires more force with a blunt instrument. We always start on the right side because with the left the side of the heart is the most painful.

No or less trauma

Many of us can probably remember how stressful it was to get our first ear hole put in as a child. It is important to be so calm and understanding. With children, we also always use a needle. It hurts less and they can't scare, which can be the case with a gun. We explain everything enough, let them breathe in and out well and before they know it, it's passed and they haven't felt anything.

Conclusion

We can conclude that a piercing needle the safest choice Is and that you should leave the gunshot to the left! If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment, feel free to check out our website and make a booking with our professional piercers.
