What are microdermal piercings?
A microdermal piercing is a piercing that can take place all over (almost) the body. Almost anything is possible.
Among other things, dermal stands for "skin" because this special piercing is pierced into your skin, more specifically into the "dermis."

To place a microdermal, you need a anchor needed. An anchor is a plate that will sit in your skin to hold the gem. The gem is almost always a stone that sits on a plate. The piercers make a hole of, say, 1.5mm and then slide the anchor plate into the dermis, into the skin.
What should you do before getting micro dermal piercing?
For any piercing, it is important that you sleep and eat enough. Stress is also a factor that will work on your piercing. It can also affect the healing process.
Can you put a micro dermal piercing on the neck?
Getting a micro dermal piercing on the neck is certainly possible. The neck is one of the most familiar places to get a dermal piercing. It looks just like a chain with a pendant but without the chain wire itself.
Can you put a micro dermal piercing on your arm?
A micro dermal piercing can also be pierced on the arm, in fact almost anywhere. We do have 2 places where we do not place micro dermal piercings.
Where do we not put micro dermal piercings?
- We do not put a micro dermal from the wrist to the fingers. A micro dermal is very sensitive and can easily snag on something. You can easily lose it by putting your hands in your pockets. You use your hands daily and everywhere, so they get dirty faster.
- The same is true by the legs: you wear pants almost every day which will often cause your piercing to falter and therefore grow out, get lost, etc. faster. We avoid these situations by not piercing here.
How do you replace/change a micro dermal piercing?
For any piercing, we recommend the at a piercer's to be changed. The stone will be changed by screwing it off and putting a new gem back on. The anchor, which is under the skin, remains the same.
If you twist off the piercing yourself, the plate (the anchor) can shift or disappear into the skin and then you lose it. If you lose the anchor, consult the piercer first and then they will refer you to a doctor if they can't fix it themselves.
How do you have a micro dermal piercing removed?
To remove a micro dermal, you need to go back to the piercer. Do not try it yourself.
The piercer will carefully remove the micro dermal from underneath the skin using a needle.
Healing process and aftercare of a micro dermal piercing
The healing process for a micro dermal is the same as for a normal cartilage piercing, it varies from 6 months to a year. The aftercare is very important, here are the tips:
- As a first step, you will need to cover your piercing for a week, 24/7 with a band-aid.
- After the first week, cover the dermal only during the night
- Wash your hands before touching the piercing!
- Go under the edges of the piercing with a wet, non-fluffy gauze every day to keep the dermal clean
You can wet the gauze with plain water or our sterile, saline solution. It would be best to do this for as long as possible.
If scabs or dirt builds up, it will push your gem upward and eventually it may grow out. - Avoid swimming in the pool for the first 6 weeks: stagnant water is not good for your piercing!
