Conch piercing: the heart thief

Have you heard of the piercing conch? A real heartthrob, neither subtle nor tough. One growing demand for the conch is definitely there and rightly so! In this blog post you will read all about this heart thief and how the conch piercing conquers our hearts.

What is a conch piercing?

If "conch" makes you think of a seashell, you are already in the right direction. The direct translation of conch will mean about the same as seashell. But in the case of a piercing, this is more the auricle.
The piercing sits flat in the middle of your cartilage, in your auricle. You have a choice between different types of conch piercings, also partly depending on your ear anatomy.

What is a inner conch piercing

When you look up conch piercing, you will often come across the inner conch piercing. This is located in the middle of your inner-cartilage. A beautiful, subtle addition to your ear that completes your look!

In addition to the inner conch, you also have the choice between:

  • The outer conch piercing Is above the inner conch, almost next to the snug piercing
  • The orbital piercing is a special piercing. Orbital stands for ring in a conch. Not many people have the ear anatomy for this.
  • The double conch piercing: In this, you are already going to put 2 conch piercings next to each other, in the place where you would usually put your conch.

How does the healing process of a conch work

The first stage: setting your piercing and choosing the gem. Now you are in the next phase: How long will it take for my piercing to heal? What should I do now? The answer lies here.
Your piercing will be approximately 6 - 9 months need to heal. Each cartilage piercing will take about the same time to heal. Of course, it depends on the person. Some heal a little faster than others. Don't worry, if you follow the aftercare tips from our licensed piercers then there is nothing to worry about! Are you not listening to our Anke, Vicky and Bloe? Then we'll come and pull your ears... Just kidding, this wouldn't be good for your piercing either.
Still, here are some aftercare tips in a nutshell:

  • Touch your piercing not too much to, certainly not with dirty hands.
  • Don't sleep on your piercing, avoid any pressure, otherwise irritation bubbles may form (yikes)
  • Rinse your piercing daily with running waterr
  • Come back after 6 -8 weeks for a downsize, a shorter rod.
  • Aftercare is key. Use a sterile saline solution Like Neilmed Piercing Aftercare . Spray this twice a day around and on the piercing.
  • Something you don't immediately think about is your earphones. With an inner conch, we don't recommend putting on in-ear closed earphones for the first 6-8 weeks. But hey! Headphones solve it, too. Over-ear only, to avoid pressure of course!

Does a conch piercing hurt?

Ouch, Getting a piercing like this looks painful but how painful is it really? Appearances can be deceiving i.e. piercings look more painful than they really are. Pain is a subjective subject, it is difficult to describe it because it is really up to you personally. Your best friend can give it a 7/10 while your girl next door gives it a 2/10. It's up to you to describe it!

Choosing between a conch piercing ring or conch piercing stud

When setting a conch piercing, it will be best to start with a larger rod. To account for swelling, this is really a must. After 6-8 weeks you can come back for a downsize, smaller rod for free.

A conch piercing ring is only possible at a orbital piercing. But again, an orbital piercing does not fit every ear anatomy and hence not everyone can wear a conch piercing ring. Fortunately, there are a host of other options to complete your ear artwork.
