What is a medusa piercing?
Medusa piercings or also called philtrum piercings called are placed in the dimple between your upper lip and nose. The name medusa is a reference to a Greek figure in mythology. Philtrum refers to the place where the piercing is put, namely through the philtrum. You can compare this piercing to a labret piercing since the gem is the same. It is a rod with a small metal ball or other fancy jewel on the front and a flat disc on the inside. The only difference is that a medusa piercing is placed above the lip.

The piercings that sound familiar such as a lip or nose piercing are on the left or even right side of the face. This piercing is symmetrical and is in the middle of the face. This makes the face look better. At Inksane we use a small needle but nevertheless it can still be experienced as painful. Of course, this varies from person to person.
How should you care for a medusa piercing?
Grooming is very important. The piercing is close to the gums and you need to take care of both the inside and outside. A mouth heals quickly but the healing period can vary from 6 to 14 weeks. A longer rod is used because the site may swell greatly. It is important to rinse the mouth with a mouthwash without alcohol, which is available in our webshop and physical shop!
How to unscrew a medusa piercing?
We recommend that you use the lip piercing do not unscrew yourself! The reason for this is because everything in the lip grows close quickly. Without proper knowledge, it can go wrong. Want to change the jeweled medusa piercing to something else? Have it done at Inksane done by our professionals. This will ensure that the piercing is taken out and put back in correctly. The action of unscrewing depends on if you have a twist or click closure of jewel. Once we know which type of jewel it is, we take hold of the piercing and twist/pull to loosen it. But, as mentioned, this is not simple and not recommended to do on your own!
